FUNDAMENTALS OF TRANSITIONAL MINISTRY: A REFRESHER
How long ago did you complete your interim ministry training?
Are you thinking of Developmental Tasks or are you thinking of Focus Points in your ministry?
Are you comfortable with the foundational theories used in interim ministry?
Do you effectively use stories in your ministry – not just yours, but those sacred stories and those than touch us every day?
This day long workshop is designed to cover the more recent materials in the IMN Fundamentals of Transitional Ministry training. This day is for you if you have already completed your training with IMN, but it was some time ago, or you did your training elsewhere.
You will find this is a valuable way to update your language, add to your toolbox, identify new readings and resources, and connect with colleagues who are also looking to stay current with the latest IMN training.
Make the commitment to yourself to be the most effective Interim Minister possible.
Rev. Dr. Norman B. Bendroth is a Professional Transitional Specialist certified by the Interim Ministry Network and serves on their faculty. He has served as a settled pastor in two United Church of Christ congregations and as a Sr. Interim Minister in seven other UCC congregations. He is the Coordinator of the Church and Clergy Resource Center for the New England Pastoral Institute and also serves on the IMN Faculty team. THE TRANSITION TEAM
Intentional interim ministers recognize two major dynamics at play during leadership transitions. What is the intentional minister’s role and work and what is the congregation’s role and work during this time – and how do they engage in that work?
The congregation dynamic creates the biggest challenge. Anxious. No knowing how to move forward. Looking to the interim for direction. The challenge is to not let the congregation become dependent upon the interim to do their work for them.
Many interims have found the use of a Transition Team to be a key component of this time and process. Some interims consider it to be the single most important element as they work to fulfill their role as “pastor to the people and consultant to the Transition Team”. The interim is there to coach the Team and promote the congregation’s work.
In this workshop you will discover and explore the importance and purpose of a Transition Team, how it is selected, steps for team development, the importance of trust formation, and observation guides for Team effectiveness. Also included will be an interactive session on training the Transition Team.
